Finding My Happy Medium
Looking back a year ago from today, allows me to appreciate more of what I have now. At the time, there were many uncertainties that made me really unhappy, especially at work. I allowed myself to be stuck in the current situation even when I knew I wasn't going to get anywhere unless I decide to move on and take a leap of faith. All the signs were there; new discoveries, a clear path for growth and most importantly - freedom.
It took me some time to finally let go. The perfect opportunity had found me and is offering me a chance to find my happy medium. I am sure all of you have heard of The Three C's of Life: Choices, Chances and Changes; "You must make a choice to take a chance to change your life." I was in a situation that gave me so much grief. Then an important decision awaited me - a choice for a chance to change my life.
I've been working at The Spa at Mandarin Oriental Hotel in downtown San Francisco for 2 years. Then suddenly in 2015, a change of ownership took place. It all happened so quickly and unexpectedly. A new company took over the hotel and spa, and everything changed. I felt so...lost. It was so strange coming in to work to the same property where almost everything was still the same except it was no longer the company I fell in love with.
Not working for the previous company was truly heart breaking. To me, they set the bar for all services in the hospitality industry, including spas all over the world. I've learned so much from working at a luxury hotel. For 2+ years, I was part of a team that was recognized with the highest rating in the industry. It had helped me grow not only professionally but also personally.
I decided to stay with the new company for another year hoping for the best. But, unfortunately, many of the familiar faces left and moved on. Still holding on to what we had gave me very little direction on where I wanted to go and where I wanted to be. All I knew was, I was no longer happy.
In the midst of all the challenges trying to make things work with the new company, I failed to see the true benefits of what I've created. A spa concept I've been developing could be the opportunity I've been waiting for for myself; my new beginning and my ticket to freedom! My family, friends and colleagues had supported and encouraged me to pursue my dreams: to make a difference in people's lives, one massage at a time.
Finding joy in my journey helped me discover a path where my growth is endless. And because of my passion for helping people and massage therapy, Relax with Joy was born.
Remember: Each discovery is a path for growth that will eventually lead you to your freedom.
Find your happy medium.
